The Karuma-Lira Transmission Line is a 132 kV power line in Uganda, commissioned in March 2023, that evacuates power from the Karuma hydropower project to the Lira substation for distribution to northern Uganda.
As contracted by Sinohydro Corporation Ltd, GETLAB conducted the geotechnical investigations to ensure the stability, safety and cost-effectiveness of the line’s design and construction.

It is a 220 kV, 137 km transmission line between Kawanda and Masaka West substations.
The Purpose is to evacuate power from Bujagali and other hydro power stations on the Nile to central and southwestern Uganda. Also, to serve as a high-voltage backbone for proposed regional interconnections with Tanzania, Rwanda, and DR Congo.
GETLAB conducted the geotechnical investigations to ensure the stability, safety and cost-effectiveness of the line’s design and construction at the request of KEC International Ltd.
