Lot 3 Reconstruction of 5 failed Bridges on the National Road Network under Design and Build; Apaa Bridge on Amuru-Omer-Rhino Camp Road in Amuru District ( Apaa Bridge)

The Apaa Bridge spans the Apaa River along the Amuru–Omee–Rhino Camp Road in Amuru District, northern Uganda, serving as a crucial transport link to key areas such as Pabbo Sub-County, the River Nile landing site, and neighboring communities in Adjumani District.

Challenge

The old bridge was washed away during torrential rains in 2020 leaving local residents and transporters vulnerable.

Solution

The Design & Build contract for Apaa Bridge designated as a 12.4 m span was implemented CIC. CIC partnered with GETLAB to undertake the geotechnical investigations for the proposed new bridge site and approach roads.

Results

The Apaa Bridge is a vital asset for regional connectivity and economic vitality. GETLAB helped determine the soil bearing capacity, subsurface layers, erosion-prone soils and seismic hazards. All these parameters helped in cost effective and resilient Designing.
